bringing the past to present students...

I am interested in K-12 virtual schooling within the content area of Social Science. As students are growing up in a technology-driven society I think that virtual schooling is the future that is being realized in the present.

I think that the integration and/or the full use of technology to deliver historical content provides a way to engage students with the past through the vast resources that are now available to them.

My goal is to learn how to better use technology to engage and educate students through observation of a virtual classroom. I am very excited about this opportunity!

Hi, Jill. The field of social studies seems like a perfect subject to use technology and virtual schooling-as is the field of science. You can study the past by using online visuals and resources. Students can keep current with the world issues, politics, the presidental race, etc. Just about everything that relates to social studies today is published on You Tube.

Have you met with your host teacher via the virtual school? I have met twice with my host, who has proven to be very helpful so far. I'm looking forward to hearing about your experiences with social studies and the virtual school. Jill Scott

I love the idea of teaching social studies in a virtual classroom and often envy those who do. Jill Sc. presented some great ideas for teaching social studies in the classroom. I think a great idea would even be to put together a newsletter/newspaper of particular eras. Something that can be worked on through group work in a virtual classroom as well.

Looking forward to the experiences you have.

'Til next time.
